1st graders participated in a lesson on Brilliant Blueberry. We discussed blueberries are great for memory and coordination. We discussed how they grow, where they can be purchased, and different ways they can be eaten. At the end of the lesson students were able to taste blueberries. #eatmovegrowla

Our members have been hard at work this year giving back to our communities. They made holiday cards for the nursing home residents throughout the year. We were recognized in J.M. Morrow Memorial Nursing home's newsletter.
This week, two of our members competed in the parish shooting sports competition. They practiced weekly and were both proud of themselves for making progress over the year.
2nd Graders participated in a lesson on Mangos, which are the King of Fruits. They learned all about its health benefits, how and where they grow as well as different ways to eat mangos. At the end of the lesson the students were able to taste a mango.
Join us for the 2nd Student Arts Expo in St. Landry Parish – a free and family-friendly festival of student artwork, live performances, and fun arts activities. The festival is March 23, 2024, from 10 AM to 3 PM in the Opelousas courthouse square. An audience makes reading aloud more fun
Kids enjoy reading to their families, and listening to your child read is a great way to instill a love of reading. When you're not available, give your child the next best thing: a captive audience. Gather a few stuffed animals or action figures around your student. They can listen while your child reads. Later, ask your child about audience reactions. "What was Monkey's favorite part?" "Did Batman understand the main point?"

Play a guessing game with sound-alike words
Homophones are words that sound alike but have different spellings and meanings (heal, heel; bear, bare; weigh, way). To sharpen your child's sense of language, think of a pair of homophones and give clues to guess it. For example, "I'm thinking of a word that is a letter and a drink" (T, tea). Get started with some of these pairs: ant, aunt; board, bored; hole, whole; meet, meat; rows, rose.

Mrs. Krystal and Ms. Gabby's first graders are 100 days brighter! They celebrated the day by making necklaces with 100 fruit loops, 100th day glasses, and glow sticks!
100th day of School Celebration-tomorrow, Jan. 31. Students in grades Prek and K may dress like 100 year old's and students in grades 1-4 may wear blue jeans (no rips, tears, or holes) with 100th day shirts or uniform shirt. No blue jean shorts or skirts are allowed.
Tomorrow, Jan 31 is an early dismissal day for SLP. PBES is dismissing at 12:00 noon. Buses will depart first; followed by car riders. Please have your child picked up by 12:30 as this is a professional development day for staff. Thank you.
